I discovered reiki following a difficult period of life and immediately benefited from its calming and relaxing nature. Through times of adversity, the principles of reiki have enabled me to maintain a positive outlook and an enduring hope.
In our fast moving world and busy lives, it is easy to put self-care to the bottom of the list, yet it’s the thing that can positively impact us the most and in turn, those around us. I believe that we can carry trauma and emotions in our body, going into survival mode for sustained periods of time and without learning how to come out of it. As a trainee counsellor, interested in specialising in stress, anxiety and trauma related disorders, I’m a firm believer that it’s crucial to acknowledge emotions, and with holistic wellness we can lean into these feelings and allowing them to be released. I also volunteer for a charitable crisis helpline.
I follow the Usui method of reiki and am a member of International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM).
I discovered reiki following several challenging life events which led to a severe impact on my mental health. Having lived with depression and anxiety for the majority of my adult life I had almost normalised those feelings and didn't think I deserved happiness. I was also suffering the effects of Imposter Syndrome daily from my corporate career.
Reiki took me to a place of intense happiness and calm. The benefits of just one session lasted for a few weeks and I felt a sense of clarity and peace not experienced in years. I believe passionately in supporting each other through active listening, kindness and a non judgemental approach. Just to be with someone in that moment offering a healing hand (literally!) is so powerful. With the ever changing world we live in it is more important than ever to make time for ourselves. Kindness needs to start from within. Reiki can offer a real escape and respite from the chaos, stress and sometimes aggression of our outside world.
I am also a trainee counsellor as well as providing emotional support to those who have been bereaved, due to terminal illness of a loved one. Like Sabrina, I’m a firm believer it’s crucial to acknowledge emotions, and with holistic wellness we can lean into these feelings, allowing them to be released. I follow the Angelic method of reiki and have been practising this for 4 years.
