Carl Rogers
I am a qualified and fully insured Counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Our mental health and wellbeing is as important as our physical health, and I believe in the healing power of counselling and of human to human connection. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, confidential, and non-judgemental space to tell your story and explore your concerns. I incorporate my values, rooted in compassion and connection, into our sessions and to develop our relationship. I believe in you, you are important and your needs matter. What you bring to the world is yours to uniquely offer and I’d like to support you on your pathway of self-discovery and reconnecting with your authentic self.
Finding the right counsellor for you is a personal decision; some people prefer gentle guidance, while others seek tools and techniques. As a humanistic integrative counsellor, I use different models and a holistic approach, however, to me the most important foundation is the building of a safe and trusting relationship. In this you will have my full attention and acceptance, helping you to explore issues with sensitivity, and at a pace that is comfortable for you. My focus is on an inner exploration, in order that insights can be gained, and an external perspective can be provided. My role is to get to know you, and for you to develop a greater understanding of yourself, this may include explorations of how you feel, think and act, and beliefs about yourself and the world. I will stand beside you wherever you are within your struggles or difficulties.
My curiosity in people led me to study Sociology, in which Social Psychology became my favourite area. Having a personal interest in the effects of sensitivity and introversion on self-confidence, as well as their role in feelings of overwhelm and anxiety, and having always valued "soft" skills, I took personal development courses in emotional intelligence and basic counselling skills, with personal power, identity, and self-esteem becoming a passion. After navigating significant personal life changes, and also experiencing the benefits of therapy first-hand, I came across Step by Step Counselling College where I completed an advanced certificate in counselling skills. I enjoyed the course and college so much that it led to my full training diploma.
I have a particular interest in supporting university students and have spent several academic years within the wellbeing team at the University of Exeter. My areas of interest, combined with both personal and professional lived experiences, have also been used to support older individuals, through a counselling charity, and also serve as a volunteer for a crisis text helpline.

In my opinion, there is a profound connection between the mind and body, and we often carry emotions physically, sometimes entering a survival mode for extended periods without knowing how to exit it. I firmly believe in the importance of acknowledging these emotions, and through holistic wellness, we can embrace and release these feelings. I discovered reiki during a challenging time in my life and found its calming nature beneficial. The principles of reiki have helped me maintain a positive outlook and enduring hope during adversities. In our fast-paced and busy lives, self-care may often be neglected, yet it is essential for our well-being and, by extension, affects those around us positively. I practice the Usui method of reiki and am a member of the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM).
